Airspace Interrupted over Washington Capitol Again
Filed in archive Aviation News by on May 23, 2005

What? Again?! Yep, another small plane, a Cessna 340, has flown into restricted airspace over the nation's capitol. It happened earlier today. This one didn't cause citywide panic, though the Senate did take a recess from all the filibustering for a brief time.
F-16s were called into action and the plane diverted its course and later landed at Gaithersburg
, Maryland. So, is this a copycat deal, or just a pilot even dumber than Shaeffer? He didn't have his transponder on by the way.
I have to tell you, my concern is some terrorist is seeing all this and just chomping at the bit to try it with a plane powerful enough to get into the airspace quickly loaded with enough explosives to do incredible damage. I hope the office of Homeland Security is really, really taking this to heart.
