Communications Failure Shuts Down Memphis Airport
Filed in archive Aviation Travel on September 26, 2007

If you have flight either originating or flying through memphis today, you may want to call your airline provider for delays. Due to a communication failure, the Memphis International Airport was shut down for three hours. Flights have resumed, but delays remain.
The communications breakdown around 12:30 p.m. EDT forced controllers to clear planes from airspace within 250 miles of the center. The center monitors flights passing between 40 miles and 250 miles of Memphis.
Flights had resumed at Memphis International Airport and communications were restored at the regional air traffic control center, an airport spokesman said.
The roughly three-hour outage caused minimal delays at airports in Atlanta, Dallas, Houston and Charlotte, the FAA said.
