Air Force Maj. Burke H. Morgan of Manitou Springs, Colorado, listed as missing in action since August 1967, has been identified and his remains interred at the Air Force Academy.
Morgan was lost on a reconnaissance mission over laos. He and another airman were flying an A-26A Invader from an airbase in Thailand when contact with their aircraft was lost.
In 2002, Laotian officials reported that the crash site had been found and the remains were delivered to a government official in the late 1980s. Later research found that the official had died, but his driver, had kept the remains in safekeeping awaiting directions from authorities.
Morgan was positively ID'd by the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command. He was buried Sept. 7 beside his wife, Mary, during the 45th reunion of his USAFA class.
