Less than a week after a One-Two-Go flight skidded off the runaway and killed 42 people, a small plane in Chattanooga, Tennessee flying from Birmingham, Alabama
missed the runway and crashed into a shopping center. A Yahoo! news story says all four passengers survived and were helped by locals. Officials were investigating the cause of the crash, which many believe was due to the lack of fuel.Ron Turner, the owner of Lexington, Ky.-based electrical contracting company Amteck of Kentucky, was on the plane with his son, company president Daren Turner, and brother-in-law, Louis Mullins, plus the pilot, said John Dougherty, a project manager for Amteck.
Ron Turner was in guarded condition at Erlanger Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said. The other two men were in fair condition. The pilot, whose name and condition were not released, was also being treated at the hospital.
At least one of the cars the plane hit before clipping the pole had people in it, but they were not injured, officials said.
The plane was heavily damaged, but there was no fire after the crash, officials said. One of the bystanders who helped rescue the occupants, medical assistant Melissa Davis, said all four were conscious and talking.
A block of the busy commercial road near where the plane came to rest was closed Thursday for the investigation. The site is about five miles east of downtown Chattanooga.
