Two private stunt planes flying in the 2006 Aero GP Event over Marsamxett Harbour in Valletta, Malta, collided and crashed into the sea Tuesday. Acrobatic pilot Gabor Varga of Sweden was killed after his plane plunged into the water. The second pilot, Eddy Goggins of Ireland, was able to eject and parachute to safety.

The rest of the event was canceled after the accident.

An involutary homicide arrest warrant issued on Goggins was withdrawn after an inquiry concluded the crash was an unavoidable accident. Goggins was reported to have said he didn't see Varga's plane before the crash.

Varga was the holder of a Guiness World Record for performing 256 aerobatic loops within an hour, according to di-ve.com.
