Remember Steve Fossett, the pilot who broke records circling the globe in the Global Flyer? Less than a month after that historic flight, he's gone considerably less high-tech, but not any less dramatic, daring and equally historic.

Now, he's flying for the Vimy Project. Steve has joined up with Mark Rebholz to recreate the historic 1919 Transatlantic flight from St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada to Clifton, Co, Galway, Ireland first ventured by pilots John W. Alcock and Arthurlinks Whitten in the Vickers Vimy.

Fossett and Robholz began their journey last Thursday from Novato, California. They plan to begin their tranatlantic flight sometime in June with stops in the following locales along the way:

  • Salina, Kansas (May 22nd - 23rd)

  • Oshkosh, Wisconsin (May 24th - 26th)

  • Toronto, Ontario (May 27th - 31st)

  • Ottawa, Ontario (June 1st - 2nd)

  • St. John's Newfoundland (June 3rd - 20th).

Interestly, while in Salinas the Vimy was parked in the hangar next to Steve Fossett's record breaking Global Flyer.
