Who says lightning doesn't strike twice. According to an article on MSNBC, two Ireland-based aer lingus flights were struck by lightning at the Shannon Airport in Ireland. Luckily, no one was injured, but both planes did suffer damage, stopping the planes from reaching their final destination, Dublin.

One flight from Boston landed at Shannon Airport at 5:50 a.m., while the other one from New York landed at 8 a.m. Passengers bound for the Irish capital were taken there aboard another plane, the airline said.

Return flights to the United States also were delayed as engineers examined both aircraft before returning them to service, Aer Lingus said.

The airline said it was unusual for two planes to be hit by lightning at Shannon Airport on the same morning.

Something equivalent happend to the Geneva-based company flybaboo. Last summer. Their two Dash8-Q300 have been hit by lightning within the same week, with minor damage.

Strangely, the week after, one of them got its electrical bus damaged because of a bad voltage regulator on a ground power unit… kind of ground strike !
